Dove Lake
Viewing Shelter
Dove Lake Viewing Shelter
award winning combination of design & infrastructure
The Dove Lake viewing shelter serves as the arrival point for visitors, blending seamlessly into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Designed to mimic the surrounding landscape, the shelter features profiled concrete to encourage plant growth, minimising environmental impact.
The remote alpine location posed challenges, requiring careful planning for material delivery and construction, particularly for the complex roof structure. Stringent environmental controls, such as managing water on-site and restricting truck washouts, were enforced. The strong collaboration between the VOS Site Manager and architect was key to delivering the project successfully in this challenging environment.
