Meet the Holmes Family and hear their heartbreaking story

If there's a family that desperately needs a Rescue with Heart, it's the Holmes Family.

Their story is a heartbreaking one and one they have graciously allowed us to share with you as part of this heart warming journey we're taking them on.

The Dave and Kylie Show was contacted by Jenny, a friend of the Holmes family who told us of the terrible trials that the family have faced and we instantly knew we had to help.

The family moved to a beautiful bit of bushland in Molesworth with dreams of renovating a half-finished shed into a new family home.

In 2012, their dreams came crashing down and their lives fell a part.

Mum, Andrea and boys, Simon and Alex were diagnosed with Danon's Disease; a rare and incurable genetic disease.

The news was devastating; the only ray of hope was that Dad, Dave and daughter, Ellen were tested and found to be clear of the debilitating disease.

Just nine months after the initial diagnosis, the family lost Simon at just 18 years of age.

We were first introduced to Ellen after she won Tasmanian Carer of the Year in 2014 and we heard her story of giving up study at just 19 to become primary carer of her mum and younger brother, Alex.

We didn't realise just how desperate the family's situation was until we reconnected with Ellen in mid-September, 2015 to see if we could give a helping hand.

The Holmes family have had an horrific and tumultuous few years filled with hospital trips, pain and constant, incessant worry. It has only been a mere three months since Alex (14) had a heart transplant as part of his ongoing treatment for his disease. He's recovering well and is in remarkably good spirits, he's an absolute champion.

We're honoured to be able to share this story with Tasmania and extremely excited to be able to give a helping hand to a family that is so, so deserving of a little Rescue with Heart. - Dave and Kylie
